Indian Powerplant Rebuilds By Jim Mosher
Jim Mosher is building Indian Powerplants to the owner's specifications. I am always asked "How much will it cost"? The answer is never the same, because no (2) motors are the same. I have seen only a few "straight-forward" rebuilds! Most motors that I see are being "hopped-up", by either an 80" job, cams, and breathing, or they are a wrecked pile of "swap meet junk". You guys out there know who I'm talking about! For a complete "Balanced, and Blue-Print" motor build, it normally takes between 80, and 100 hours. At my $25.00 per hour rate, that is from $2,000.00 to $2,500.00. This does not include parts (at retail cost!), or other outside services like: machine shop fees, cad plating, specialty welding, etc.
I can provide the following services:
1) Complete "Bottom End" building, including: Case inspection, and decking when needed. Push-rod guide honing for oversized push-rods. Crack repair. Inside painting with Glyptol. New cam bushings. New, or re-honed crank bushings. Rods rebuilt, and straightening. Flywheel assembly, balancing, and truing. Clearances carefully setup, and all documented.
2) Complete "Top-End" building including: Sleeving, Bore, Hone, Piston fit, Ring End-Gap setup, Teflon valve seals, (3) angle valve jobs, "Porting", Decking, painting, and assembly.
3) Cam, and cam case setup including: performance cams, and associated Scout springs for more coil-bind clearance. Lifters, and all cam side plays are properly set.
4) Oil Pump, and Distributor rebuilding.
5) Primary drive, clutch, and transmission building, and repair.
6) Overdrive (4) speeds installed.
7) 80" Stroker Jobs! More power, and more Torque!
8) Head "Setup", including fly-cutting, milling, and relieving.
9) '52&'53 style primary seal job.
10) Converting Pre-'47 cases to use the '47 style oil sump scraper.
11) Carrillo Style rods from either Starklite, or Kiwi.
12) Oil-tight construction!
13) Keihin CV carb kits installed.
14) Full documentation!
Some Pictures Of My Motors
One of my "Assembly Lines" of 6 rebuilt motors.
Three more motors!
Here are six more Indian motors. Scouts, and Chiefs. A never ending process to keep Indians alive!
A Bottom End getting ready for assembly.
Crank Assembly being balanced. I use a 60% balance factor!
Two more motors I just rebuilt. One is a rebuild of a "fresh" build, and the other is a '48 that had never been apart. The '48 was in better shape than the "New Build" motor!
A motor I built for Jeff Roth's very nice '46 Chief.
A Linkert I rebuilt for a customer to put away, since he replaced it with a Keihin CV for a better Indian riding experiance!
I also build Vincents. I'm one of the few! This is my "Big Bore" 1,164cc performance motor with double the horsepower from stock. These motors are a real challange!
Yes, I even build Pan Heads, and NO, I won't build one for you. I only did this as a favor for a good friend. I had to see a therapist after working on an H-D!
